HGL Fall Premier Regional Box League

2018 Fall Premier League Resources

Homegrown Premier is a first-of-its-kind regional development program that provides powerful opportunities for young athletes to develop skill, drive, confidence, and character. In addition to elevating their game, players develop meaningful relationships with mentors and teammates and, we hope, a deeper love for the game and community.

Directed by some of Minnesota's most impactful instructors and underscored by Homegrown's award-winning coaching philosophy, the HGL Premier program delivers the highest level of training conveniently, affordably and inclusively to intermediate and advanced lacrosse players of all ages, socio-economic backgrounds, and skill levels.

2018 Fall Box Season Overview

The HGL Premier Fall Box Season starts with regional team evaluations which run the first Saturday after Labor Day (9/8/2018) and during each region's first weeknight practice session. The regular season then runs for five weeks and ends the weekend before MEA (10/13/18).

Players participate for one of four regional development programs: the Muskies (South Metro), Wolfpack (West Metro), Riverlax (East Metro), and Bears (North Metro).

Teams are available for players in 7th - 12th grade to form 3 teams: 14U, JV, and Varsity. The top 12 to 15 players at each level are selected regionally. B teams are offered if there is enough demand across all four regions to do so. Every attempt is made to include as many players as possible and position them to succeed.

Players participate in three sessions each week: Doubleheaders played in outdoor arenas on Saturday mornings / early afternoons which rotate between each of the league's four regional host sites;  90-minute team practice sessions which run on recurring weeknights and focus on offensive & defensive systems, and transition; as well as 75-minute Homegrown Academy training sessions which run on recurring weeknights and focus on fundamentals, position-specific skills, and functional strength development.

Rules for the 2018 season will follow USL / NFHS box lacrosse guidelines.

Players who are not selected for a team, or who don't want to commit to three days per week, are encouraged to participate in regional Academy sessions.

Premier players are also encouraged to participate with their home association or high school teams who compete in our GNLL Youth and High School Fall Leagues which run on Sundays. HGL Premier games are set on Saturdays to ensure that schedule conflicts between association based programming do not occur.

Training Approach

The Fall Premier Box season offers players twenty-five hours of highly structured, up-tempo on-field lacrosse training (17 hours of practice and 8 games). Game and practice times are specifically balanced to follow the recommendations made by Canadian Sport For Life's (CS4L)  Long-Term Athlete Development Model (LTAD).
