Virtual Coaching Sessions

These virtual coaching sessions look to offer information and ideas for association directors, managers, coaches and parents.  The aim is to educate and share resources to continue to improve the experiences for our youth lacrosse players.

 

Session information is provided below, along with links to add the event to your google calendar.  Sessions will take place via Google Meet and will be recorded and put on this page once the session is completed.  Feel free to refer back to sessions at your convenience throughout the spring and summer seasons.  There will be ample time at the end of the sessions for questions so live participation is recommended.

Player Recruitment & Retention Panel

Join us to discuss what has worked well for different boys & girls associations across the state.  The panel will be asked several prepared questions, but there will be ample time for you to get any questions answered as well.

Offensive Mechanics/Dodging

These sessions will go over the mechanics of shooting, cover specific dodges and highlight some basic offensive strategy for you to utilize with your teams.

Transition game and Draws/Faceoffs

Both sessions will focus on transition work, providing drill ideas, ways to move the ball down the field and then cover draws for the girls session and faceoffs for the boys session.

This session will go over how to best prepare and plan for your season and practices. Focusing on how to lay out your season and in turn lay out your practices.

Team Building/Buy In

Learn ideas to build your team both with lacrosse and non-lacrosse ideas to help build a TEAM mentality.  Creating buy in amongst your team can help everyone to feel more included as well as get your team acting like a TEAM.

Lax 101 for Parents

PRESENTERS

Morgan Abboud

Morgan was an avid athlete in high school, so she picked up lacrosse in college at Bethel University when the team was looking for new players to join. She then played at the U of MN -Twin Cities after transferring. During college, Morgan also reffed the sport at the high school level for 4 years. After graduating college, she joined the U of MN coaching staff as a defensive and conditioning coach for 4 years. When Morgan started her career teaching high school English, she jumped at the opportunity to coach the newly formed Maple Grove HS team. She coached there for 15 years and brought MGSH to the club state tournaments her first 2 years coaching and later after the sport was sanctioned, to the MSHSL State Tournament for multiple appearances.  

Additionally, Morgan has a well-rounded and seasoned experience in the local, national, and even the global lacrosse communities over the past 20 years working with youth, high school, and college-age players. Morgan and her husband have owned and operated the local club program MN Lakers (the first club program in the state!) for the last 7 years.

Morgan has a deep passion for educating young people, utilizing sport for developing the whole person, as well as being a positive and knowledgeable resource to empower others in these pursuits to make their communities stronger.  

Rachel Frantz

Coach Rachel Frantz began playing in 2003 in the Minneapolis area. She has been playing for 22 years and currently plays and coaches in the international circuit. She served as a captain for all four years of her collegiate career at Augsburg University and was a member of the inaugural team. 

As a coach, her experience started in high school when she volunteered to help at the middle school level. The coaching continued into college and beyond. Rachel has served as a coach at Irondale High School in Minnesota, at San Juan Hills High School in California, SMK Bintulu in Malaysia, Southport High School in Indiana, at Chapman University in California, and Marian University in Indiana. She finished up a five year stint with the Colombian National Team and just accepted the head coach position of the Austrian National Team. 

Last year Rachel made the leap to full time coaching by starting her own lacrosse training business, Crossroads Lacrosse. She works with clients ranging from 6 years old to 24 years old in private and semi-private sessions. Her passions lie in adjusting mechanical details to unlock an athlete’s power and potential in a way that empowers them and builds confidence.

Zach Bodeau

Zach has played and coached lacrosse for the past 15 years. He began playing in 8th grade in Denver, Colorado. Zach played at Regis Jesuit High School, where he was part of 2 state championship teams. After graduating high school, Zach played for Rockhurst University (D2) from 2017-2020 and at Lenoir-Rhyne University (D2), where he played in the Division Two national championship in 2021. He coached at Lenoir-Rhyne University in 2022, where he worked with the faceoff-unit and helped the team reach the quarterfinals of the NCAA tournament. 

 

Since moving to Minnesota, Zach has coached for Centennial High School, the Minnesota Loons, and Minnesota Chill. He also coaches basketball at Roosevelt High School. 

Stephen Manor

Stephen’s been playing and coaching lacrosse for over 16 years. He tried lacrosse for the first time in 9th grade at Hill-Murray, where he fell in love with the sport and hasn't looked back! After high school he played in college at Northern Michigan for 2 years, then transferred home to play at Bethel University for his final 2 seasons.

He has coached for several high school, youth association, and travel teams over the last 13 years, primarily being with the Minnesota Chill for the last 6 years.

He has 3 kids (5, 3, and 7 months) that fill his life with love and chaos, and he is always grateful to be a part of this amazing lacrosse community.

Anne Moelk

Anne Moelk has been around lacrosse and athletics for over 40 years.  Her accolades are listed below for you to read about her incredible career.  She currently serves as the Player Welfare Manager at MNUFC.  Prior to that she served as the Head Coach at DePauw from 2019-2023.

Career Highlights

  • Named North Coast Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 2021 after leading DePauw to a 4-1 NCAC divisional record and 6-4 overall
  • From 1992-1994 assistant coached at Denison in both lacrosse and field hockey
  • For one season Moelk was an intern assistant coach for Princeton University following her time at Denison
  • Moelk returned to her alma mater as head coach of both lacrosse and field hockey for the 1995-96 academic year
    • Posted a 12-2 record in lacrosse
    • Posted an 11-7 record in field hockey
  • From 1996-99 she was the assistant women's lacrosse coach for The Ohio State University's (OSU)  program's first three varsity seasons
  • Following her position at OSU Moelk was named the first head coach for women's lacrosse at Division I Ohio University, from 1999-2003
  • Served as head coach for England's Under 21 Squad 
  • From 2007-2022 Moelk was a trainer in the U.S. Lacrosse Coaches Development Program
  • From 2009-2014, she was the student affairs assistant director and assistant Title IX coordinator for the Mitchell Hamline School of Law
  • From 2014-2017 worked as an assistant dean for the Mitchell Hamline School of Law
  • While working as an assistant dean from 2014-17, Moelk was also the co-head coach for the Minnesota Lakers Select Travel Club girls lacrosse team and the first commissioner fo the North Central Women's Lacrosse League
  • In 2017 Moelk was named the Director of Student Support, and Title IX coordinator at University of Indianapolis
  • In 2017 she was named head coach and recruiting director for the Indy United Select Club team

Academic and Athletic Highlights

  • Earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History at Denison University 
  • Earned a Masters of Arts in Sport and Excercise Studies at The Ohio State University
  • Earned a Juris Doctor from William Mitchell College of Law (Minn.)
  • Played both lacrosse and field hockey for the Big Red
