Indigenous Youth Summer Program Director VISTA

Job Summary

The Youth Summer Program Director VISTA within Indigenous Initiatives at Homegrown Lacrosse is responsible for helping to execute the core functions of the program. The primary responsibility for this position will be the development and execution of the boys’ athletic and wellness program at the Lax 4 Life summer camp. The internship will also provide opportunities for key organizational activities including community engagement and development. The VISTA will report to the Director of Indigenous Initiatives. In addition to the specific activities outlined below, the VISTA will provide support as needed for Indigenous Initiatives.

Programs

  • Oversee Lax 4 Life camp lacrosse-focused programming.
  • Direct roster of coaches and administrative staff in execution of Lax 4 Life camp. 
  • Assist in the coordination of logistics, finances, and management of camp and affiliated programming. 
  • Assist in other Indigenous Initiatives programming including, but not limited to: leagues, clinics, and coaching development. 

Community Engagement

  • Develop and manage Indigenous Initiatives contact database and listserv. 
  • Assist in preparation and administration of Advisory Council meetings and coordination. 
  • Create engagement mapping resource to identify strategic needs related to community engagement. 

Development

  • Create grant and donor database focused on Indigenous Initiatives programming and operations. 
  • Write donor ask letters and other development-related materials. 
  • Assist in the creation of development framework and needs assessment for future programming. 

Benefits

$2,589 living stipend (paid bi-weekly) plus an education award of $1,374 or end of service stipend of $311. Additional paid opportunities are offered through Homegrown Lacrosse for activities including tournaments and league management. Remote flexibility is available. 


Term

VISTA term is from June 13, 2022, through August 12, 2022. Attendance at the Lax 4 Life summer camp in Cloquet, MN is required from August 8-12, 2022.


Eligibility

Candidates must meet the following eligibility requirements to be able to serve in the Summer VISTA program: 

  • Be 18 years or older (no upper age limit).
  • Hold one of the following statuses:
    • US Citizen
    • US national
    • Lawful permanent resident
    • Legally residing in a state: refugee, asylee, or DACA status
  • Able to work full-time (35-40 hours) during term period; scheduling flexibility is available.
  • Able to pass a background check
