DIRECTOR OF INDIGENOUS STORYTELLING SUMMER VISTA

Job Summary

The Director of Indigenous Storytelling Summer VISTA within Indigenous Initiatives at Homegrown Lacrosse is responsible for helping to execute the communications and storytelling functions of the program. The primary responsibility for this position will be the management and execution of the strategic communications plan, in concert with the Director of Indigenous Initiatives. While the internship will focus on key areas and functions of storytelling and communications, there are additional opportunities in key organizational activities including community engagement, development, and programming. The VISTA will report to the Director of Indigenous Initiatives. In addition to the specific activities outlined below, the intern will provide support as needed for Indigenous Initiatives.

Communications

  • Manage Indigenous Initiatives' social media including: Youtube, Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram. 
  • Assist Director with development of branding and web presence through strategic digital communications plan. 
  • Develop one communications-related project relevant to the advancement of strategic communications objectives. 
  • Develop and execute communications plan for Lax 4 Life summer camp. 
  • Works in collaboration with leadership to represent Indigenous Initiatives in the community – locally and nationally – and build relationships for the organization.
  • Develops and maintains style guidelines for the organization.

Benefits

$2,589 living stipend (paid bi-weekly) plus an education award of $1,374 or end of service stipend of $311. Additional paid opportunities are offered through Homegrown Lacrosse for activities including tournaments and league management. Remote flexibility is available. 


Term

VISTA term is from June 13, 2022, through August 12, 2022. Attendance at the Lax 4 Life summer camp in Cloquet, MN is required from August 8-12. 


Eligibility

Candidates must meet the following eligibility requirements to be able to serve in the Summer VISTA program: 

  • Be 18 years or older (no upper age limit).
  • Hold one of the following statuses:
    • US Citizen
    • US national
    • Lawful permanent resident
    • Legally residing in a state: refugee, asylee, or DACA status
  • Able to work full-time (35-40 hours) during term period; scheduling flexibility is available.
  • Able to pass a background check
