Originally designed in 2009 to provide an end of summer tournament experience for area high school summer teams, Champions of Summer is back in 2020 to try and make up for the season that we have all lost.
There are 2 distinctly separate tournaments offered, one for 2020 high school rosters (Aug. 5 - 6) and one for summer traveling club teams (Aug. 3 - 4).
Dates: Monday, August 3 - Thursday, August 6, 2020.
Game start times run from 1:00 to 8:00 pm. (Travel teams August 3 - 4, High School teams August 5 - 6).
Location: Hopkins High School & Hopkins West Junior High.
Format: 4-game guarantee with two 20 minute halves and a two minute half time. Pool play with advancement to championship brackets.
Travel Team Divisions (August 3-4):
Girls: 2021, 2022/23, 14U, 12U
Boys: 2021, 2022/23, 14U, 12U
High School Divisions (August 5-6):
Girls: Varsity, JV
Boys: Varsity, JV
*2020 graduates ARE eligible to play.
Team Participation Fee: $975
The following will be provided for each game:
• Certified UMLOA/MLUA officials
• Certified EMT's equipped with AED's
• Professional Site Managers / Scorekeepers
• Online standings, schedules, and updates
• Tournament and Homegrown Lacrosse Apparel for Purchase
Eligibility: Tournament follows US Lacrosse age & eligibility guidelines according to the 2019-2020 school year however graduated Seniors ARE allowed to play in HS divisions but not in travel team divisions. USL membership is NOT required for players or coaches.
High school coaches who plan to coach their spring teams need to work with their athletic directors to obtain an MSHSL summer coaching waiver. *The summer coaching waiver period has been extended through August 7 for 2020.
Team Registration Deadline: Friday, July 10, 2020.
*Registrations are accepted on a first-come-first-serve basis.
A $200 deposit is required for each team registered. Teams are not considered fully registered until deposit payments are received. The remaining balance is due no later than Friday, July 17, 2020
We will continue to follow State and Federal guidelines around the COVID-19 pandemic and make adjustments as needed. Deposits and registration fees will be fully refunded if these guidelines prevent us from playing.
Homegrown Lacrosse is a registered 501c(3) non-profit organization. Team fees cover facility, officials, EMT, field staff, equipment, and league administration costs. Additional proceeds and sponsorships sustain, expand, and develop service-based initiatives throughout the region.
