Originally designed in 2009 to provide an end of summer tournament experience for area high school summer teams, Champions of Summer is back in 2020 to try and make up for the season that we have all lost.
There are 2 distinctly separate tournaments offered, one for 2021 high school rosters and youth associations (Aug. 2-3) and one for summer traveling club teams (Aug. 4 - 5).
Dates: Monday, August 2 - Thursday, August 5, 2020.
Game start times run from 1:00 to 9:00 pm. (Travel teams August 2 - 3, High School teams August 4 - 5).
Location: Location TBD (2020 was held at The National Sports Center in Blaine, MN)
Format: 4-game guarantee with two 22 minute halves and a two minute half time. Pool play with advancement to championship brackets.
7/24: At this time, teams are capped at 24 players/coaches.
Travel Team Divisions (August 2-3):
Girls: 2022(May include up to five 2021s), 2023/24, 14U, 12U
Boys: 2022(May include up to five 2021s), 2023/24, 14U, 12U
High School + Youth Association Divisions (August 4-5):
Girls: Varsity, JV, 14U
Boys: Varsity, JV, 14U, 12U
*2021 graduates ARE eligible to play.
Team Participation Fee: $975
The following will be provided for each game:
• Certified UMLOA/MLUA officials
• Certified EMT's equipped with AED's
• Professional Site Managers / Scorekeepers
• Online standings, schedules, and updates
• Tournament and Homegrown Lacrosse Apparel for Purchase
Eligibility: Tournament follows US Lacrosse age & eligibility guidelines according to the 2020-2021 school year however graduated Seniors ARE allowed to play in HS divisions but not in travel team divisions. USL membership is NOT required for players or coaches.
High school coaches who plan to coach their spring teams need to work with their athletic directors to obtain an MSHSL summer coaching waiver.
Team Registration Deadline: Friday, July 16, 2021.
*Registrations are accepted on a first-come-first-serve basis.
Normally a $200 deposit is required for each team registered and teams are not considered fully registered until deposit payments are received, however due to Covid-19, we are not asking for payment until the tournament has been confirmed.
We will continue to follow State and Federal guidelines around the COVID-19 pandemic and make adjustments as needed. Deposits and registration fees will be fully refunded if these guidelines prevent us from playing.
Homegrown Lacrosse is a registered 501c(3) non-profit organization. Team fees cover facility, officials, EMT, field staff, equipment, and league administration costs. Additional proceeds and sponsorships sustain, expand, and develop service-based initiatives throughout the region.
