Homegrown for the Holidays

12/28/2009, 10:19pm CST
By Ian Gallagher

Today was the first session of the Homegrown for the Holidays winter league. Setup was an adventure as we we had to move two snow covered nets into the brand new dome at Concordia University. Speed was essential as we carried the nets through the large doors. Air was pouring out of the dome as we struggled to relocate the goals inside. We were successful and a potential disaster was adverted. Once we got set up it was smooth sailing ...read more

By Ian Gallagher

The Holiday Season is taking the Homegrown Lacrosse office by storm. Jesse is giving away five t-shirts to random 2009 campers. They are going out today. He actually got in a conversation with himself about stamps that had the rest of us a little nervous ...read more

Free Lacrosse

12/16/2009, 9:59pm CST
By Jesse Brown

Last night I was walking to my truck after class and out of nowhere I suddenly felt as though I was transported into a rendition of the Dave Matthew's Band "Everyday" video.

Passing by the foyer of Wilson Library, I saw four people standing with what I first thought were protest signs. You know the ones--big white poster board sheets attached to wooden sticks that often rest on the shoulders of those yielding them. Being on a college campus such as the U of M, I didn't think this was out of the ordinary at all ...read more

I spoke with Andy Kerchner about Lakeville Lacrosse, pizza squares, and the big dance. Andy is a longtime friend of Homegrown Lacrosse and Minnesota lacrosse in general. He was pivotal in the creation of Lakeville lacrosse and remains active in the community. Thanks to the Minnesota Swarm for all the support that made the 2009 PE program possible ...see the video.

True Roots of Homegrown Lacrosse

12/03/2009, 9:40pm CST
By Aron Lipkin

I recently went on a pilgrmage of sorts - visiting the birthplace of Homegrown Lacrosse. What I found in the process- is just like our sport as whole - is worth sharing.  It may come as a surprise to many but Homegrown Lacrosse was not officially started in Minnesota. The first seeds were actually planted far away from good old Minnesota on the sunny Southern California campus of Whittier College ...read more

Times Between Times

11/30/2009, 9:36pm CST
By Jesse Brown

In the hustle of our everyday lives, it is not difficult to forget what fuels us, what keeps us going. I would venture to say that it is not a rare occurrence for someone to lose track of what makes them happy. I always say that if you are wholeheartedly invested in what you are doing, you will be successful at that given task, activity, etc.

Furthermore, I am a strong advocate for doing what you love, for doing what makes you happy. For instance, I love lacrosse--it makes me happy. Now, I don't have a lacrosse stick in my hand every minute of everyday. However, I do know that what I am doing, is all for the best interest of lacrosse ...read more

Growing Up Orange

11/18/2009, 9:29pm CST
By Ian Gallagher

My favorite lacrosse team growing up was the Syracuse Orangemen (now the Orange). My first lacrosse experience was in the Carrier Dome watching Syracuse play Loyola. By the time I was a freshman in high school I was at the peak of my orange obsession. It was the year 2000 and it was a great year to watch the Orangemen play ...read more

Homegrown Lacrosse PE and Me

11/06/2009, 9:23pm CST
By Ian Gallagher

The Homegrown Lacrosse Physical Education Program in my opinion is the one aspect of Homegrown that sets us apart from the pack. Our employees go out and teach elementary, middle and high school students about the game and its history.

I am from Syracuse, New York, a classic 'hotbed' of lacrosse and our PE classes did little to nothing to explain the game to students ... read more

Minnesota I Am Sorry

10/15/2009, 9:14pm CDT
By Ian Gallagher

Hello, my name is Ian Gallagher and I have a confession to make; I am not from Minnesota. I was born and raised in Syracuse, New York and went to college in New York City. So like the salsa mentioned in Pace commercials, I am out of place West of Buffalo. Without my GPS I would have been unable to coach a single camp for Homegrown Lacrosse and probably would have starved ... read more
