Jon Benson or Coach "Benny" grew up in Crystal and started playing lacrosse as an attack his junior year. He still resides in Crystal-Robbinsdale and is the Head Coach for the Robbinsdale-Cooper High School Girl's Lacrosse Team.
Jon says that, "Watching my players develop into such great athletes" is what he enjoys most about coaching. "I have been blessed to be around the best girls in the state and have always had a great staff as well."
Benny owes a lot to his High School coach who was from Maryland and was very good at coaching. His favorite lacrosse memory was from his Senior Year of High School when he and his team went undefeated, 12-0.
Lacrosse has opened his mind to possibilities he never thought would happen. Being a Baseball and Hockey player growing up he has been impressed to see the sport flourish in an area not known for lacrosse. As he reflects on these inspirations he says, "It makes me work harder at growing the sport."
Tidbits: Jon's favorite food is Chicken Wings and Ravioli. His favorite restaurant is Granite City. Something you may not know about Benny is that he likes to do a lot of food challenges like Man Vs. Food. He wishes to someday travel to Germany for Oktoberfest and must have his Xbox 360.
