Brent Walby

Brent grew up in Coon Rapids and now resides in Mankato.  He attended  Minnesota State University, Mankato where he played his first three years of college ball as at attack before switching to midfielder. Brent's numerous honors include High School 2nd Team All-State in 2007, College 2nd Team All-Conference in 2007-2008, College 1st Team All-Conference 2008-2011, and 2009-2010, 2010-2011 All-American Honorable Mention. As well as 2010-2011 UMLL D1 Offensive Player of the Year.

Amazingly, Brent has only been playing lacrosse for five years. In that time, though, he has come to understand that lacrosse leads to the development of the whole person. "Lacrosse is as much a mental sport as it is a physical one," he says. "And staying mentally strong is important in life and sport." One time Brent was playing in a game against the University of Southern Florida and was shut out by a goalie for a good part of the game. After refocusing his attitude, he pushed the beginning of the game out of his mind and committed to scoring, which he eventually did.

The two things Brent enjoys most about coaching youth is seeing them excel at a young age and encouraging them to be successful in the future.  He also recognizes that bringing an element of fun into the game is essential. He explains that his father always told him, "If you can't have fun playing a sport, than you’re doing something wrong.”

Brent became involved with Homegrown Lacrosse because he feels the program is exciting, inspiring and enjoyable. He appreciates being able to share those beliefs with others through coaching and mentoring.
