Brian Kimmel

Brian 'BK' Kimmel grew up in Fort Wayne, Indiana but now calls Minneapolis his home.  He attended North Central Michigan College where he played defense for the interestingly-named Fighting Ferrets.

Brian has numerous honors and achievements including:

  • 1998 Most Valuable Player at his high school.
  • Certified US Lacrosse Level 1 and 2 Coach.
  • Certified Double Goal Coach from the Positive Coaching Alliance.
  • Coaching Director for Sammamish Lacrosse Club.
  • Coach of the U13 Team Washington/Seattle Starz.
  • A member of Team ALL OUT.

He is currently the Navtive American Lacrosse Program Coordinator for the Minnesota Swarm. Head Coach/Program Director for Prairie Island Lacrosse Club as well as the director of MINLAX.com.

Two things Brian likes about lacrosse are that the sport has a rich tradition and that a player has such a bond with his gear. "With so many other sports, players can pick up their gear at a store and go play a game. In lacrosse, players used to build their own sticks. We don't do that as often anymore, but each stick is unique to its owner," he says.

Lacrosse has been a big part of Brian's life for the last 15 years. Early on it was a place where he could meet new friends and get away from everyday teenage stresses. In college it was a great way to form solid friendships and try out new, wicked skills on opposing teams.

What Brian enjoys most about coaching is being able to provide a fun environment for kids to come out and relax. They also are able to forget about everything else in their worlds when they're playing lacrosse. "I also really enjoy all of the free stuff like hats, jackets and sticks!" he adds.

Tidbits: Brian would someday love to travel back to Ghana.  His favorite food is Chipotle and favorite gadget is his Sony PSP.
