Community Growth

Supporting Growth in Minnesota

Our service-based programming focuses on strengthening the community and the individual.

One of our goals is to achieve sustained and healthy growth for the sport of lacrosse in every community across the state of Minnesota. The ultimate goal is to give every kid the chance to play the sport.

To help this mission become a reality, we offer a wide variety of clinics and growth initiatives for every community and player skill level.

Homegrown Lacrosse has been instrumental in helping start programs through our educational clinics in Shakopee, Grand Rapids, Duluth, Cambridge-Isanti, and Becker to name a few.

Likewise, Homegrown Lacrosse's Inner-City Programming, In-School P.E. Program, and Indigenous Lax Alliance have introduced youth to a sport they might have never seen otherwise.

Beyond introducing youth to the sport of lacrosse, Homegrown Lacrosse's Leadership Development Program works to develop self-confidence, character, and a sense of community within the youth and young adults we serve.

Founded in 2022, the Indigenous Lacrosse Alliance (ILA) is a dedicated organization that aims to revitalize lacrosse within Indigenous communities, both tribal and urban. Originating from a strategic planning committee of Native leaders, coaches, and players, ILA’s mission focuses on creating sustainable lacrosse programs and enhancing the well-being of Indigenous youth. With core commitments like prioritizing the needs of Indigenous youth and fostering community-based leadership, ILA engages in various initiatives to broaden access to lacrosse. These range from their Lax-4-Life Summer Camp, which serves over 50 Indigenous youths with holistic programming, to community development efforts like coaching mentorship, equipment donation, and fiscal support for administrative fees. The organization works collaboratively to ensure that all Indigenous people have the opportunity to partake in this traditional sport, thereby enriching their cultural roots and overall well-being.

The Leadership Development Program (L.D.P.) provides high school and college volunteers an opportunity to coach alongside Homegrown senior staff at a variety of programs and events throughout the year, the biggest being the Homegrown Summer Camps in July. L.D.P. counselors gain confidence in their coaching ability and develop a better understanding of lacrosse from a new perspective. This translates to greater on-field skills and expands to life skills off the field.

In addition to facilitating the development of the next generation of coaches, the program allows counselors the opportunity to create lasting relationships with other L.D.P. counselors as well as the youth lacrosse players they coach. During summer camp, counselors will lead groups of 6-10 players at a time.

Team Evaluations

Homegrown Lacrosse offers youth associations and high schools unbiased help in selecting rosters for the season. Our coaching staff has many years of experience selecting teams and has a tested system to get the job done right. Our goal is to come out of the tryouts with a set roster and depth chart for your organization.

We use a point system to rank players based on stick skills, position understanding, athleticism, hustle, communication, lacrosse IQ, and more. We focus on the athlete as a whole and will provide individual feedback based on our observations.
