Hometown: St. Paul, Minn.
College: University of St. Thomas
Position: Attack & Offense
Coaching: St. Thomas Academy
Joe grew up in St. Paul and played for St. Thomas Academy. While there, he was a 2-time All-American. Joe is currently attending the University of St. Thomas where he plays midfield/attack and has been a 3-time MCLA DII All-American while playing for 2 National Championship teams. He was also named the 2009 MCLA DII player of the year.
Lacrosse has been special to Joe for a long time. "In one of the first games I played in, a ground ball bounced right to me about 10 feet away from the net. I cocked back and whipped that ball as hard as I could. Unfortunately, I missed the net by about 10 feet and lost the only ball we had that day. Regardless of all the upset players on the field that day, I walked away feeling better than I ever had in any athletic activity. The feeling of winding up coupled with the possibility of scoring was incredibly empowering for me, who at the time was a scrawny misguided child. That feeling has never left me, it made me work harder than that scrawny kid could have ever fathomed."
His favorite aspect of coaching is the impact it has on a child's life. Player's beware, though -- on the field his favorite drill is implosion. Joe believes that Homegrown Lacrosse stands for Community, Upbeat Attitude, and Excellence.
Tidbits: Joe's favorite restaurant is Ruth's Chris Steak House and would someday like to travel to South America. His must-have gadget? A Bobcat with multiple front-end attachments.
