Leadership Development Program (L.D.P.)

The Leadership Development Program (L.D.P.) provides high school volunteers an opportunity to work and coach alongside the Homegrown Lacrosse staff at youth and middle school programs.

Through this program, the L.D.P. staff gain confidence in their teaching ability as well as develops a better understanding of lacrosse in the context of their own game.

As L.D.P. staff members, high school players gain self-confidence on the field as well as expand life skills off the field. Each L.D.P works as program counselors responsible for groups of six to 15 youth lacrosse players.

The program provides a unique opportunity for future coaches to develop not only their coaching skills but also their leadership skills. L.D.P. staff develop an understanding of the game as well as create lasting relationships with youth lacrosse players.

  • Gain coaching and leadership experience
  • Further develop their own understanding of the game
  • Develop leadership skills and self confidence
  • Experience what it means to be a positive role model
  • Daily access to strength and conditioning trainer
  • Receive the opportunity for one-on-one coaching sessions with a senior staff member
  • Receive a sweet staff t-shirt

In addition to facilitating the positive development of the next generation of coaches, the program allows youth lacrosse players the opportunity to meet and build relationships with high school players in their community.

L.D.P. Experiences

“The program helped me with my coaching skills, but also with my confidence. It showed me effective strategies for working and teaching kids, as well as responsibility.”

“The program was really neat in that it allowed us [the L.D.P. staff] to help further the sport and it allowed us to further our own skills.”

“I gained loads of discipline and saw how the senior staff members coached. Working with them gave me a better understanding of how to coach the game of lacrosse.”
